Jeff Sagarin graduated from MIT with a degree in mathematics in 1970. Fifteen years later, in 1985, he introduced a computer formula for calculating which is the best college football team in the country.
The actual BCS ratings will not be coming out for another few weeks. However, Sagarin’s ratings are one of several computer numbers used in formulating the BCS standings since the system was first introduced in 1998.
In order to preview which schools might be sitting atop the BCS when the rankings are first unveiled, take a gander at Sagarin’s numbers following the first week of games this season.
