Sage Kotsenburg skips Opening Ceremony, wins USA’s first gold medal

American Sage Kotsenburg made a game-time decision on Friday to skip the Olympics’ Opening Ceremony. The snowboarder instead decided to rest for Saturday’s semis and finals.

Looks like he made a good decision, because Kotsenburg ended up surprising the world (including himself) by winning a gold medal in slopestyle.

Eat it, Canada.
