Sean Taylor’s murderer, Eric Rivera, sentenced to more than 57 years

Eric Rivera Jr., the man convicted of murdering Sean Taylor, has been sentenced to more than 57 years in prison, according to ESPN.

Taylor, a former Miami Hurricane and Pro Bowl safety for the Washington Redskins, was murdered in 2007 during a failed burglary attempt of his South Florida residence.

During the ensuing trial, Rivera initially admitted to the homicide, but later retracted his statement, claiming police coerced it. He was officially convicted of second degree murder in November 2013.

Taylor was just 24 years old at the time of his death.
