The South Carolina Gamecocks will be sporting new Under Armour football uniforms in 2013 as they head into arguably the most highly anticipated season in school history.
Under Armour did not simply slap together a set of whites and a set of maroons and hope for the best. No, not even close. Instead, UA has incorporated subtle, Gamecocks-specific additions within the design.
First and foremost, there is nothing random about all the stripes on the helmets, gracing the shoulderpads and running down the pant legs. There are 11 of them in total, equaling the number of buildings which sit on “The Horseshoe” – easily the most famous part of the South Carolina campus and a national historic landmark.
Under Armour has focused on “something timeless that fits in with the power and tradition of SEC Football and linked specifically to South Carolina.”
“Coach Spurrier has established a tradition of excellence at South Carolina and we worked together to create a uniform that would be viewed in the same light and would instantly be known as the South Carolina design for years to come.”
