Steve Spurrier’s new contract approved by University of South Carolina trustees

Steve Spurrier just led the South Carolina Gamecocks to their third straight 11-win season – something he never accomplished while at the helm of his alma mater, Florida.

For his success, the University of South Carolina trustees have approved a lucrative new contract for the Ol’ Ball Coach, according to Andy Shain of The State. Spurrier will now make $4 million per year, which will be the ninth highest salary in college football. He has also received a 1-year extension through 2018, a bonus worth $550,000 should he win the national title, and a clause to become an ambassador to USC when he retires.

In his eight seasons at USC, Spurrier has taken the Gamecocks to seven bowl games, and compiled a 77-39 overall record. For his career, he is 219-79-2.
