Andy Enfield’s Florida Gulf Coast squad has taken the 2013 NCAA Tournament field by storm, destroying the championship dreams of big-time programs and demolishing the brackets of millions in becoming the first 15-seed to ever reach the Sweet 16.

However, the coach’s life has been pretty good for far longer than simply the last few days. Nine years ago, while he was an assistant coach, he drove a supermodel, Amanda Marcum, from New York to Boston so that she could watch her Oklahoma State Cowboys during the second round of the Tourney that year. The two hit it off on the ride down, and later took in a St. John’s NIT game together.
That was a first date of sorts, but things didn’t really heat up until after, when Enfield went for the “big romantic gesture”: A trip to Taco Bell for some classy gorditas. Or chalupas. Or whatever. He took a Maxim cover girl to Taco Bell.
USA Today recounts the events:
Because Enfield wasn’t familiar with the restaurants in Queens, he figured he’d see what was open on campus. Taco Bell was the only restaurant open late. “I got her a nice burrito, and we sat behind the bench,” Enfield told Newsday for the quote of a century. “I figured if she still likes me after Taco Bell and a basketball game . . . “
Living in the Sunshine State of Florida, dominating the basketball world right now and crushing T-Bell with a bombshell?
But wait, the winning gets even better. Enfield proposed in a manner that would probably have had most girls running for the hills, but not Marcum. CBS’ Lewis Johnson was able to catch up with Enfield on how the question was popped:
“Get this, the ring was squeezed in between two Krispy Kreme donuts…inside the box. Nine years later, modeling career over and nine years later they have three kids. She looks happier than ever, I guess she looks like a model wife.”
