After 16 years under the direction of Mack Brown, the Texas Longhorns are officially looking for a new head coach. Brown announced his resignation on Saturday night after days of speculation. He will step down following the team’s Alamo Bowl game against Oregon on Monday, Dec. 30.
The search to replace the national championship coach is on, and Texas fans are foaming at the mouth for the possibilities. With a job as prestigious and powerful as Texas, we are sure to hear every name under the sun. Alabama coach Nick Saban was the presumed favorite, but he recently signed a hefty contract extension with the Crimson Tide.
Who does that leave? Some early favorites are Vanderbilt coach James Franklin, Baylor coach Art Briles and FSU coach Jimbo Fisher, among others.
Ranker.com has put together the following ranking for determining who fans think will be Texas’ head coach in 2014. New AD Steve Patterson will be tasked with wading through the potential candidates to find someone to put the Longhorns back on top. Whether or not the name comes from this list remains to be seen; these are simply some early favorites who will likely get a look form Patterson.
