Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville ripped the headphones off an assistant coach on Saturday in the Red Raiders’ game against Kansas in a move that initially appeared to be a slap (0:40 mark on video).
We are not sure if it was an all-out slap or a forceful rip of the headphones, but the action is still bad enough. It is not on the level of a Bob Knight tantrum, but Tuberville definitely got overheated in what was a sure sign of frustration.
Texas Tech cannot afford to hurt its image any further. Former basketball coach Billy Gillispie was fired this year for alleged player abuse and previous football coach Mike Leach was terminated over a controversy of supposed player abuse.
Tuberville will most likely apologize for the situation and, hopefully for the Red Raiders, everyone can move on without any more bad marks to the image of their sports programs.
Texas Tech had difficulty defeating Kansas and pulled out a 41-34 double overtime victory.
