Vanderbilt’s Derek Mason up to play Penn State ‘any time … anywhere’

Vanderbilt head football coach Derek Mason has hit the ground running as James Franklin’s replacement in Nashville, and the Commodores’ new skipper isn’t shying away from the void left by the former coach.

During a radio-hosted event called SportsFest at Music City Center, Mason fired up the ‘Dores faithful by saying he’d welcome the opportunity to play his former team, Stanford, or – wait for it – Penn State. Courtesy of The Tennessean, here is Mason’s quote:

“If James Franklin wants to play, we will play any time and place, anywhere.”

We love nontraditional rivalries here at the Gamedayr HQ, so hopefully this one will come to fruition and stay long beyond the two coaches involved.
