Cincinnati wide receiver Mark Barr was welcomed back to the Bearcats’ athletic facilities following a tragic car accident that claimed the life of teammate Ben Flick.
Barr, a Ft. Lauderdale, FL native, had been away from his team since Sept. 22. The evening prior, Cincinnati had beaten Miami of Ohio, 14-0. Following the game Barr, Flick, fellow UC wideout Javon Harrison and Miami (OH) freshman Sean Van Dyne were all involved in a one-car accident.
Flick, just 19 years old, was killed. Barr, Harrison and Van Dyne were all taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
One of the first steps in the proverbial healing process was taken on Nov. 5, when a smiling Barr returned to the athletics facility, walking on his own two feet.
