What began as a plunk-fest ended with a brawl and then ejections. First, Zack Greinke (who recently healed from a broken collarbone sustained in an early-season brawl with Carlos Quentin) nailed Arizona’s Cody Ross in the fifth.

Instead of warning anyone or anything like that, the umps just let it ride. In retaliation, Ian Kennedy drilled L.A.’s week-long superstar, Yasiel Puig, in the nose with a 92 MPH fastball. Ejections? Not yet.

That wasn’t until the seventh, when, first, Greinke hit Miguel Montero. Finally, in the bottom half of the inning, Kennedy hit Greinke, and it was time for the benches to clear. Check out the (fairly long, actually) video, followed by three epic GIFs below.

In what might be this humble writer’s favorite GIF of all time, two slugging stars from the 1990s, Mark McGwire and Matt Williams got into it as coaches for the Dodgers and D-Backs, respectively. For further enjoyment, read McGwire’s lips:

A couple more aging legends got into it as well. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly has been fighting for his job for so long he may have just gotten used to fighting in general. Here, he takes down Alan Trammel hard — and got some spectacular familial support for doing so:

Finally, if you’ve ever wondered what it looks like to see Turner Ward tossed into a railing, now’s your chance:
