Compton, Calif. native Kendrick Lamar set the rap world on fire with the release of his track, “Control,” on Big Sean’s album. In it he claims, among seemingly a zillion other things, to be the “King of New York.”
Apparently, that line got the attention of Knicks both past and present. Former Knicks player-turned Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson tweeted out a response to Lamar’s verse, but current swingman Iman Shumpert took it one step further.
Included in his tweet is a full-on rap verse responding to Lamar’s. We have already heaped praise upon Shumpert’s abilities behind the mic, and he did not disappoint here either.
Interestingly, Shumpert is not from New York, either, but rather Oak Park, Illinois, a Chicago suburb. We’re waiting from someone actually from New York to step up for his city.
Metta World Peace? Why not?
