Jadeveon Clowney told reporters that he has not played his final snap for the South Carolina Gamecocks.
After blowing up Michigan’s Vincent Smith in the “Hit Heard ‘Round the World,” the South Carolina defensive end entered his junior year as one of the most hyped players in recent memory.
There was virtually no chance he would be able to live up to expectations, but his disappointing season came to a head against Kentucky on Saturday. While his teammates were busy dispatching of the Wildcats in a tougher-than-expected, 35-28 home showdown, Clowney was sitting on the sidelines. He had informed coaches roughly an hour or so before kickoff that he would be a no-go while nursing a rib injury.
His decision to sit out the ball game did not leave coach Steve Spurrier very excited, and it set off a firestorm of debate across the national landscape on whether or not he was mailing it in for the NFL Draft.
The superstar admitted to reporters on Tuesday that he is, indeed, nursing an injury that is keeping him from running, but that he has not taken his last snaps with South Carolina.
