How great is this?
Team USA soccer took care of its end of the bargain on Tuesday night, beating Mexico, 2-0, in Columbus, Ohio. Then, in the ultimate display of scoreboard watching, our national team players retreated to the tunnel to check out the results of the Honduras-Panama game. Should Honduras pull out the victory, or even a tie, the Americans would be headed to Brazil – Team USA would have clinched its spot in the World Cup.
About an hour or so later, the teams had tied at two-apiece, and the celebration was on. Instead of heading to a house or bar or wherever else, the players instead sprinted back out onto the stadium turf to celebrate with the few hundred people that had stuck around.
And chug themselves some Bud Light, of course.
It’s a great day to be an American, for several reasons.
