Unconfirmed reports have surfaced that the NBA has decided to cancel the 2014 Slam Dunk Contest. Sources say that once the following video leaked online, the league felt it was in its best interest not to hold the competition.
The Dunk Contest has undergone several format changes over the past few years to stimulate fan interest. Without big name players (like James) and underwhelming performances, the event has lost prestige from the halcyon days of Jordan, Wilkens and Carter.
Fearing that no dunks will compare to LeBron’s post-practice performance, the NBA has decided not to risk embarrassment, calling this year’s event. It looks like LeBron James doesn’t even need to enter the competition to win it. It’s good to be The King.
