On Tuesday, the sports world lost a legend with the passing of Pat Summerall at the age of 82. Summerall kicked in the NFL for nine years, but became far better known for his longtime partnership in the announcing booth with Super Bowl-winning Oakland Raiders coach John Madden.

Nowadays, the two are known to a younger generation as video game icons, but for decades an NFL Sunday was simply not the same without the commentary and analysis of this dynamic team.

We have dug up footage of their very first broadcast together, a 1979 showdown between then-NFC Central rivals Tampa Bay and Minnesota.

The trademark analysis and voice was there, right from the beginning.
