Trey Anastasio and Phish have changed lives for the better over the long touring history of the band. Now, Anastasio is attempting to change the way Seattle Seahawks fans cheer for their all-pro quarterback, Russell Wilson.
The former Wisconsin Badgers star was drafted in the third round by coach Pete Carroll, only to win the starting job and then lead Seattle to the playoffs.
Anastasio kicked off a solo leg of his tour in, you guessed it, the grunge capitol of the universe, Seattle (the rest of his band will be joining him later). He thought it would be fun to add a wrinkle to one of his most popular songs, you guessed it, ‘Wilson’, according to JamBase.com.
“This is how you have to help me out: I wanted to do this all last football season. I don’t really know how we’re going to pull this off. I say ‘we,’ because we’re going to do this together,” Trey said, barely distinguishable because of crowd screaming. “But by next season, every time Russell Wilson walks onto the field … I think you know where I’m going with this – social media – tell your friends! Somebody has to make this happen because we’ve been waiting for someone to make Wilson be a sports-song. I’ll play the song – you guys make it happen!”
Please, whatever you do, enjoy. If you are a fan of Phish, obviously you will. If you are not, but happen to be struggling with yet another long offseason, just let this be a fun little way to enjoy some NFL talk when there are no actual games to be played.
