In one of the stranger videos to hit the web of late, a pace car at a New Jersey trotters race lost control and slammed into several race horses.
The event took place at Freehold Raceway, during the track’s fifth race. After the car led all the carted horses into the first turn, it skid out and slid down the track. Only one of the seven contestants cleared the crash, as the race was declared a no-contest.
A spokesperson for the track informed the Star-Ledger of the state of the horses and jockeys.
“I believe the horses are all okay. Five of the drivers have been transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center” in Neptune, said Freehold Raceway race secretary Karen Fagliarone, who did not know the conditions of the drivers.
