Shavarsh Karapetyan, a former champion diver, had the honor of carrying the Olympic torch in Moscow for the starting leg of its international journey. Unfortunately, said journey got off to a bit of an acrimonious start.
The torch went out, and Mr. Karapetyan was forced to signal for help. Instead of some sort of Olympic official saving the day, a random guy approached with a lighter and remedied the situation. We had sort of assumed it was all a bit more formal than this.
