Early on Monday, Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was arrested after police had learned that he was involved in an altercation at a bar following a Reds game.
All early accounts, as well as a tweet sent out by Jones himself, indicated that he had been acting in self-defense. Allegedly, a drunk girl had asked to take a picture with the player, and when he refused, she threw a bottle at his head from point blank range. At that point, Jones slapped her.
Here, however, and beginning at the 1:02 mark of the video below, we can plainly see that Jones is going to have some real explaining to do. What was rumored to have been a belligerent woman throwing beer at Pacman looks like an angered one merely pushing her bottle into his face.
And what was supposed to have been a shocked Pacman who slapped out of instinct looks a lot more like a boxer landing a left hook into the woman’s cheekbone.
The main thing to remember about Jones is that he has not earned any benefit of the doubt. Not with the league, not with fans, and not with the police. This is the same man who was suspended for the entire 2007-08 season and who has had three run-ins with the law since signing with Cincy in 2010.
