Generally speaking, if you put a few microphones in front of Steve Spurrier, something amazing is going to happen – that’s just the way the Old Ball Coach operates.

However, the South Carolina coach did not make many of his fans happy when, late Monday night, he told reporters that Jadeveon Clowney may have to sit out Week 1 of the 2013 season. For a superstar that has spent the entire offseason watching his Heisman candidacy skyrocket, losing a full game would be devastating.

Spurrier tells the reporters on hand following the Gamecocks’ second two-a-day practice that Clowney is nursing a shoulder injury. If his situation doesn’t improve, and Clowney doesn’t get on the field, the defensive end may find himself watching South Carolina’s Week 1 showdown against North Carolina from the bench.
