Second-seeded Victoria Azarenka suffered what appeared to be a very serious knee injury during her first-round Wimbledon match on Monday. She was on her way to an easy win — up 6-1, 1-0 — when she collapsed as she was setting up to return volley.
You can see Azarenka grimacing in pain in the video, but she proved her toughness only a little while later. After being tended to by a doctor, she returned to the court with her knee heavily taped. In fact, she went on to beat Portugal’s Maria Joao Koehler, 6-1, 6-2.
If this issue does not clear up quickly, however, it could affect her play in the later rounds of the tournament.
