At some point in his life, Jeff Withey will be asked about his “welcome to the NBA” moment. There’s a strong probability that Withey will answer that it was the seventh game of his career, when Xavier Henry nearly jumped over him.
Withey joins the ranks of Shawn Bradley and Frederic Weis, as seven-footers who’ve been victimized by smaller players. With the Lakers facing the Pelicans, Xavier barreled down the lane and rose up for a big dunk. Rookie Withey stood in for a charge, and promptly earned a facial.
The dialogue between Henry and Withey probably went like this…
“What up, Jeff? Sorry I punched you in the face.”
“You shouldn’t have stood in, but thanks for being on my basketball card.”
“See you later tonight on YouTube. PS, You’re not in Kansas anymore.”
