Boy, that escalated quickly. Jet Chevrolet, a Seattle car dealership, decided to run a car promotion for this weekend’s Seattle-New York game. Perhaps somebody forgot to tell General Manager Mike Gates that the Seahawks are really good, while the Giants can’t hit the broadside of a barn given 100 throws.
The promotion was simple: a total of 12 winners would be selected for a payout of $35,000 if Seattle shut out New York. To be entered, participants could either fill out a form (good for one entry), or buy a new/used car (good for 100 entries).
A total of 23 points later, the Seahawks scored a 23-0 shutout in MetLife Stadium, while Jet Chevrolet was put on the books for $420,000.
As of Sunday evening, Gates was still waiting for a call from the insurance and promotion companies.
