We first heard Will Grier’s father, Chad, state that his son was excited for Florida’s hire of Kurt Roper as the Gators’ new offensive coordinator. Grier himself has now weighed in on the new hire.
Coach Roper is a great fit. I will learn a lot from him and Chris Leak. It is an amazing opportunity to play for such a great staff. #Gators

The Davidson, N.C. native is familiar with Roper, having participated in two Duke summer camps. Roper will not only be in charge of calling the plays at Florida, but will also be the man responsible for developing Grier’s talent as his quarterback coach. Roper turned Eli Manning into the No. 1 overall pick while at Ole Miss, and also developed Thad Lewis into an NFL quarterback with Duke.
Leak, who won a national title while playing for the Gators, joined the Florida staff prior to the 2013 season as a quality control coach. He now helps coach the team’s offense as a graduate assistant.
