One-handed basketball prospect Zach Hodskins commits to Florida Gators

Zach Hodskins only has one full arm, but he will have just as good of an opportunity as any other freshman to earn playing time with the Florida Gators. Billy Donovan recently offered the one-handed Milton, Ga. native, and on Saturday he committed to the Orange and Blue.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder expressed just how excited he is to receive such an opportunity:

“It’s always been my dream growing up,” Hodskins said. “I never expected it to be like this, but the hard work has paid off. I’m ecstatic I’m going to be a Florida Gator.”

Hodskins was born without his hand and forearm, so he has never known anything different. He has worked as hard as anyone. Aside from Florida, he had also been offered a chance to play at Kentucky with John Calipari. However, in the end, the chance at playing time swayed him to the Gators.

“At Florida, I’m going to have every opportunity to get on the floor and play,” he said. “The situation was different at Kentucky.”

“I’m coming on as a preferred walk-on, but I’ll be treated like every other player,” Hodskins said. “If I work hard, Coach Donovan told me I’ll have a chance to play.”

Take one look at his highlight reel and you’ll understand exactly why Donovan and Calipari offered Hodskins.
