Florida State tops Clemson in dramatic, buzzer-beater fashion

From the same spot that he hit his two buzzer beaters last year, Michael Snaer nailed a 3-point shot as time expired to give the Seminoles a 60-57 victory over the Clemson Tigers on Thursday night. This was an important game for both teams as the Noles move to 3-2 in conference play while Clemson fell to 2-4 in the ACC.

Florida State did not get off to a great start, putting together one of their worst offensive performances in the first half in over 30 years. The Noles shot just 32 percent, were 1-of-6 from the 3-point line, and scored a measly 21 points.

In the second half, FSU was able to stay in the game and slowly chip away at the Clemson lead. Kiel Turpin’s 16 second half points (a career high), coupled with the steady play of freshman Devon Bookert, was enough to keep the Noles in the game.

Bookert hit a three from the top of the key with :44 seconds left to tie the game at 57. The Noles forced a shot clock violation on Clemson’s next possession and got the ball back with :08 seconds remaining. Senior Michael Snaer dribbled up the court, rose over two defenders, and banked in the game winning 3-point shot as time expired.

Nole Nation has come to expect this from Snaer as he continuously makes big plays for FSU when they need it most. The shot gave the Noles their only lead of the second half but it couldn’t have come at a better time.
