FIU to go with ‘beach towel’ court design, cabanas behind the hoop [Photos]

Richard Pitino recently tweeted out potential new court designs for the FIU basketball program. Well, Pitino is no longer the Golden Panthers coach (he recently accepted the open position at Minnesota) but the court designs are still a full go.

Without further ado, here’s the new FIU court:

If it looks like a beach towel to you, then you are not alone. Folks are already starting to call this ‘the beach towel design’, but this will prove a little more pricey to the school than just a day chillin’ on the sand.

As in, $50,000 for the renovation.

However, that includes an unreal idea to actually put cabana seating behind the basket. No, this is not some sort of belated April Fools’ Day joke; this is South Florida at its unapologetic finest.

Heck, if they charge for bottle service, they could make up the entire $50K spent on the new hardwood in a night or two.

FIU’s new court design is both tropical and radical. Check it out @sunsentinelsunsent.nl/12m2b0K
