Top 10 FBS College Football Teams Closest To 1,000 Wins

In the 140-plus years of college football, no single team has eclipsed 1,000 wins. With less than 15 games in every season, it takes a long time to amass that many victories. However each year that passes, programs are getting closer and closer to hitting the quadruple-digit mark.

As you would expect, the handful of perennial powerhouses that have arisen throughout college football’s time as a sport have recorded the most victories in history.

Michigan currently leads the pack, and is the only program with less than 100 games to go. But will the Wolverines be the first to reach a millennium worth of victories?

There are a slew of programs hot on Big Blue’s tails. Notre Dame is just 118 out. Texas is one game behind the Fighting Irish at 119. Nebraska has 126 to go. And rounding out the top five is Ohio State with 137.

As far as conferences go, the Big Ten leads the way with four programs at the top (Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, and Penn State). The SEC is represented by two teams, rivals Alabama and Tennessee. The Big 12 also has two teams creeping close to 1,000 wins in Texas and Oklahoma. Southern Cal is the lone Pac-12 program, and rival Notre Dame is holding it down for the Independents.

Each team ranked inside the top 10 has less than 200 wins to go, and while all are still quite a few years out, at least one program should eclipse the mark in the next 10-15 years.

Below we rank each of the top 10 college football teams closest to 1,000 wins entering the 2015 season. Also listed are the total games played, number of victories, losses, ties, and overall winning percentage.
