LSU topped the USC Trojans in the finals. Prior to that, the Tigers knocked of conference rival Georgia to advance.

Not only was it the first title since 1955, it was also the first appearance in the championship since that same year. It’s been a long time coming, but LSU finally broke through and the Tigers can once again call themselves champions.
