No longer grinding it out on the football field, former Georgia Bulldogs and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Hines Ward has found another way to punish his body in retirement.
No, we’re not talking about his days as a zombie, it’s a bit more intense than that. Ward has been training to take on his very first IRONMAN Triathlon. He will be competing in the World Championships in Kona, HI on October 12.
The race is no joke. Triathlons can be comprised of many different distances and skill sets, but an IRONMAN has been standardized. Ward will be attacking a course that includes a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and finally a 26.2-mile run. For those wondering, yes, the run is the same distance as a marathon – an entire marathon after swimming and biking.
Ward’s training has been sponsored by Got Chocolate Milk.
