Governor Of Texas Dooms Houston Astros With Preemptive Tweet

The saying “it ain’t over ’till it’s over” found its poster child on Monday.

The Houston Astros, an underdog team that no one expected to make the playoffs in 2015, were up 2-1 in a best of five series against the Kansas City Royals. With a chance to advance to the American League Championship Series with one more win, the Astros were up 6-2 in the 7th inning. According to Fangraphs, they had a 97% of winning the game at this point.

Then, Texas governor Gregg Abbott decided to congratulate the Astros on Twitter, even though the game was not over yet.

Take a wild stab at what happened next.

The Royals scored seven runs in the final two innings and stunned Houston at home 9-6.

Abbott promptly deleted the tweet. But we all know that once it’s out there, it’s out there.

The series now heads to Kansas City for the definitive game five where win or loss, Abbott will surely keep his mouth shut until the final out is recorded.
