Truly tragic news from the Jacksonville area as cancer took the life of another person, this time someone far too young. Khameyea Jennings, just eighteen years old and fighting liver cancer, passed away Thursday at Wolfson Children’s Hospital while fighting the disease.
Jennings named was brought into the spot light when she was escorted to her senior prom by a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars, defensive tackle Sen’Derrick Marks. The date was arranged when Marks visited the hospital earlier this year, and was asked to do so by an organization in the area that works with children in the area battling serious illness.
The night of the prom, May 2nd, Marks pulled out all the stops to make it a special night:
Marks rolled up in his Lamborghini in a white-and-gold tuxedo for the prom date. The teen’s mother, Laquandra Jennings, told the Florida Times-Union her daughter enjoyed attending a regular activity with her friends and Marks.
“She said this is a day to be normal,” Laquandra Jennings said, “not to have to worry about needles, chemo, potassium levels. Just a day to be a teenager and enjoy the prom.”
Nothing put prayers go out to Jennings family during this absolutely difficult time. And I think I speak for everyone who has either gone through it or know someone who has when I say cancer can go to hell.
