Report: Tampa Bay Buccaneers hire Lovie Smith as new head coach

It didn’t take long for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to find a replacement for Greg Schiano. On New Year’s Day, it was announced that the Bucs hired Lovie Smith as the team’s new head coach.

The two parties are still ironing out the details of the deal, which was reportedly in works for days.

Smith was the linebackers coach on Tampa’s staff from 1996-2000, working under Tony Dungy. He was then hired as the St. Louis Rams’ defensive coordinator (2001-03), before picking up his first head coaching gig with the Chicago Bears (2004-12).
