Ticket City ranks college football’s most engaged fans heading into 2013

Lots of sports media outlets have ranked college football’s biggest fan bases utilizing various criterion. However, what better entity to rank the fans than a company that should know better than most others, a ticket sales company?

Ticket City, utilizing data amassed during the 2012 season, was able to rank fan enthusiasm and engagement over the course of the 2012 season. Of course, the company began with ticket sales, but then it also went to social media, utilizing “likes” and “follows” as another means of tracking participation.

Here’s how the company’s weighted scale broke down (for more detail on the point breakdowns, click here):

  • Average total attendance, all games (5)
  • Average home attendance (10)
  • Average ticket price, all games (5)
  • Average home game ticket price (10)
  • Percentage of stadium capacity filled at home games (10)
  • Facebook likes & Facebook “talking about” (6)
  • Twitter following (3)

So, what are the 25 most engaged fan bases nationwide? Ticket City is glad you asked.

Fans of both the Big 10 and the SEC should be puffing out their chests with pride. A whopping 17 of the 25 available slots go to the two powerhouse conferences.

Oklahoma and Texas represent the Big 12 in the top 10, but the only other school in the league that even cracks the top 25 is West Virginia.

USC and Oregon are the Pac-12′s lone representatives while the ACC only boasts three teams, all coming in between 20-25.
